Encouragement from Matt Hoskinson

Years ago, I took a Bible course (New Testament Messages) from Matt.  I remember two things from that course – he is a faithful student of God’s Word and he is a big Michigan fan.  Recently he has been much more than that and has ministered grace to my heart.

Matt was recently diagnosed with cancer.  He has been regularly posting Cancer Journal updates on his blog.  From his very first comment:

Given my age and relative health, the odds that treatment will be successful are high.

Our hope, however, does not lie in doctors’ predictions. Our gracious and good God has brought the cancer, and he remains our confidence.

to his comments about his first chemo treatment:

God answered prayer and brought me safely through my first chemo treatment. I have had very few side effects so far, and for that I praise God for his mercy. I deserve every side effect, including death and then hell, yet our Lord delights to glorify himself by showing pity on unworthy rebels like me. I was able to work for a few hours today in spite of the short night of rest last night. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of you who have been the means of God’s sustaining power through your prayers.

Matt’s response has been encouraging, convicting and grace-filled.  I am thankful to the Lord for his work in Matt’s life and for using Matt’s trial & growth to minister to me and others.
